What Improves your Health, Mental Acuity AND Makes you Nicer?

In some of what I have written over the years, I have urged readers to consider accessing the incredible power of meditation. It not only relieves stress but it also improves health and mental acuity; it can lead you to answers to challenging questions; it has the power to help you manifest into your life what seems like the impossible; and it generally makes you a much nicer person.

The biggest complaint I have heard stems from the impatience of the first-time experience, “I can’t turn down the volume on my noisy meandering mind, so what’s the use?” My advice is don’t get turned off by that, it happens to the most experience meditators. The difference is that they don’t get bothered by it and simply return to the quiet of their mantra and the spiritual comfort and power of “nothingness.” It takes regular practice to get better at it—just 30 minutes a day—and eventually the noise volume turns down to a mild hum and the frequency of popping in and out of the quiet state decreases to an insignificant level.

However, if you are impatient and don’t want to endure the noise until you “get there,” I have a suggestion that may help. Try equipping your iPod with very special music that will definitely soothe you into a meditative state. The two absolute best recordings for this are in my view:

  1. Unspeakable Grace by 7-time Grammy Award Winner, Gary Malkin. This is the only music I listen to while writing. I believe it elevates my creativity. It’s available on line at www.wisdomoftheworld.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=19&idcategory=28
  2. Medicine Woman by Medwyn Goodall, especially the third track, Temple Journey. This CD can be bought from Amazon at www.amazon.com/Medicine-Woman-Medwyn-Goodall/dp/B000005DJX/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1390899364&sr=8-3&keywords=medicine+woman.

Another alternative is to purchase one of Deepak Chopra’s meditation CDs. One of his best is Creating Abundance, The 21-Day Meditation Challenge which is available  at http://store.chopra.com/adsearch_results.asp?cx=partner-pub-0921515882900289%3A1779238557&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UTF-8&q=meditation+cd&sa=Search&siteurl=store.chopra.com%2F%3Futm_source%3DChopra.com%26utm_medium%3DMenu%2520link%26utm_campaign%3DChopra.com&ref=www.chopra.com%2Fabout-us%2Fdeepak-chopra-md&ss=3114j975538j13
